Silver City Earth Ways Teen Mentoring Program:

Nature Connection, Ancestral Skills, and the Arts of Life
On this nature-based mentoring journey, we will work with:
~ Giving thanks: an ancient address to the land
~ The 4 directions and navigation: finding your way in the world
~ Awareness: awakening our senses and tuning in to the natural world around us through fun and challenging games and exercises
~ Earth Skills – (skills covered will be determined by group members’ experience and interests): fire by friction, shelter building, containers, basketry, archery and weapons, traps and snares, camouflage, burned and carved utensils, wild foods, primitive cooking, hides and skins, night vision and stealth
~ Group drumming and the role of communal music
~ Capoeira: martial arts, movement and ritual
~ The circle way – how we relate with one another in a respectful and strong way
~ Sit spot: connected nature observation and participation

Earthways for Teenagers (ages 13-18) projected dates*:
February 7th: one day adventure ~ 9am – 5pm (Meet at the Northeast corner of Gough Park)
March 21st – 22nd: overnight ~ Sat. 9am - Sunday 5pm
April 18th – 19th: overnight ~ Sat. 9am – Sunday 5pm
May 27th – 30th: 4-day backpack with communal return drumming gathering
*(dates may be negotiable based on group members’ schedules)
Program includes dinner and breakfast on overnights, musical instruments, all materials and instruction. Cost is on a sliding scale: $400 - $600 for four-month journey. (Can be paid monthly at $100 - $150/ month). One need-based scholarship is available. All meetings will be near Silver City.
Led by Andrew Dahl-Bredine, founder of the Circle Way Project. Andrew has led primitive life skills, drumming, and mentoring programs for kids and adults for the past 6 years in New Mexico and around the Southwest.
